A celebrity (sometimes referred to as a celeb in popular culture) is a person who is easily recognized in a society or culture. Generally speaking, a celebrity is someone who gets media attention and in certain circumstances show an extroverted personality. There is a wide range of ways by which people may become celebrities: from their profession, appearances in the mass media, or even by complete accident or infamy. Instant celebrity is the term that is used when someone becomes a celebrity in a very short period of time. In some places, someone that somehow achieves a small amount of transient fame, through hype or mass media, is stereotyped as a B-grade celebrity. Often the stereotype extends to someone that falls short of mainstream or persistent fame but seeks to extend or exploit it. In the 21st century, the insatiable public fascination for celebrities and demand for celebrity gossip has seen the rise of the gossip columnist, tabloid, paparazzi and celebrity blogging. The rise of international celebrities in acting and popular music is due in large part to the massive scope and scale of the media industries, enabling celebrities to be viewed more often and in more places. This is my first question to be posted on yahoo. It looks pretty interesting and I m hoping to get a lot of feedback from this question. My specific question is from a growing irritation at today s media. I feel that the lack of information that we get is frustrating in the extreme. My general question today is why do the networks focus so much time on celebrities and not on the real issues. For example the networks devote whole months of day to day coverage of Paris Hilton and Anna Nichole Smith and the likes. When the world is falling apart and we can t get real information. Who cares what the celebrities are doing let them make movies and entertain us other than that don t devote whole sections of news to them. Very frustrating any… [cont.] Asked by Bibliomaniac - Wed Jul 18 17:37:32 2007 - Other - Politics & Government - 16 Answers - Comments A. The real answer is rather plain to see. The corporate sponsors of the media do not want people to be thinking about real world problems. If folks stopped being hypnotized by sports and celbrities, they might actually start wondering about the corrupt nature of American busines/Government. So by flooding the news with that crapola, they keep the people brain numbed. Now here's an interesting item: for the last three months it's been Paris Hilton. While that's been going on in front of the 24 hour news cameras, the Hilton Hotel Chain has been involved in a huge and possibly corrupt international business buy-out. You could only know about the Hilton business scam if you dig, which most people don't have the interest or patience for. So the… [cont.] Answered by single occupant - Wed Jul 18 17:58:57 2007 Do all celebrities really deserve to have their lives torn apart in the media?
Q. People are under the misconception, that if are famous, for whatever reason, the media or the public has the right to rip you to shreds. And I'm not talking about reality stars because they do ask for it. I would call them celebrities though. Thoughts?
