The concept of personhood (who is a person within a society) is the fundamental component of any selective concept of people. A distinction is maintained in philosophy and law between the notions "human being", or "man", and "person". The former refers to the species, while the latter refers to a rational agent (see, for example, John Locke's Essay concerning Human Understanding II 27 and Immanuel Kant's Introduction to the Metaphysic of Morals). Central issues of interest to people are the understanding of the human condition and the meaning of life, and survival. Religion, philosophy, and science show or represent modes and aspects of inquiry which attempt to investigate and understand the nature, behavior, and purpose of people. Sociology, economics, and politics represent modes by which people investigate how to maximize a collective survival strategy.

Why do people ask people from the INTERNET important medical questions concerning themselves?
Q. Why do people ask people from the internet important medical questions concerning themselves? I am baffled at some of the medical questions I see people asking about themselves on here, especially when they have already been given an answer from there doctor which they have visited on the issue. Why do they not ask there doctor these questions, or get a second opinion from another doctor. I am amazed that people would turn to people from the internet, who they do not know, to answer a question concerning there health, and welfare. What are your views on this?

A. Some people are asking out of curiosity, maybe someone can give them some insight, or maybe someone has experience the same thing, or things to think about before going to the doctor. But when some people come on here and ask what shall I do my baby has had fever for days now, or questions like that .. is beyond me. Those people are just stupid. Common sense would tell anyone with brains when to ask and when to call or head to the doctor.

What would happen if people did research before they actually formed an opinion?
Q. What if people actually tried to understand people before writing them off? What if people actually learned how our government works before deciding they don't like it? What if we went somewhere before saying we don't like the place? What if people put as much care into something as they did hate?

A. The use of stereotypes would be destroyed. People would be less likely to judge. People would be more understanding and comprehensible. The race would be better all around. There would also be more trust in the world. Also, people like that would be a bit more emotional and by that I mean outgoing and eccentric to those of today. But I'd like to know what kind of answer you are rooting for. ~Nayr

Quotes about people

Sourced

  • Human: a minor bipedal life form extant on a squalid little planet named Earth, in a backwater little-known galaxy; they are also known as 'Earthlings'. Humans are characterized by an exaggerated sense of self-entitlement, display a collective form of narcissistic personality disorder, and are generally regarded as the rednecks of the universe. Their problems appear to stem from a disingenuous form of business transaction they call 'land ownership.'
  • A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals, and you know it.
  • Show me a man or a woman alone and I'll show you a saint. Give me two and they'll fall in love. Give me three and they'll invent the charming thing we call 'society'. Give me four and they'll build a pyramid. Give me five and they'll make one an outcast. Give me six and they'll reinvent prejudice. Give me seven and in seven years they'll reinvent warfare. Man may have been made in the image of God, but human society was made in the image of His opposite number, and is always trying to get back home.
    • Glen Bateman, The Stand (C&U), 3rd paragraph of Chapter 42, by Stephen King
  • I judge people by what they might be,—not are, nor will be.
  • The people will live on. The learning and blundering people will live on.
    • Carl Sandburg (1878–1967), American poet. The People, Yes (1936)

  • Ordinary people are as common as grass, but good people are dearer than the eye.
