Daniel John "Danny" Sullivan III (born March 9, 1950 in Louisville, Kentucky Louisville (usually pronounced /ˈluː.əvəl/ ; see Pronunciation below) is the largest city in the U.S. state of Kentucky, and the county seat of Jefferson County. Since 2003, the city's borders have been coterminous with those of the county because of a city-county merger. The city's estimated population as of 2008 was 713,877 (consolidated; ) is a former racing driver from the United States ^ b. English is the de facto language of American government and the sole language spoken at home by 80% of Americans age five and older. Spanish is the second most commonly spoken language . He is best known for winning the 1985 Indianapolis 500 .
Before Racing
Sullivan was born to a building contractor father in Louisville Kentucky. He attended the Kentucky Military Institute and then the Jim Russell Racing School. He had several odd jobs before his racing career, including lumberjack, and most famously, New York City New York is the most populous city in the United States, and the center of the New York metropolitan area, which is one of the most populous metropolitan areas in the world. Indy Car Career
Sullivan participated in 15 Formula One Formula One, also known as Formula 1 or F1, and currently officially referred to as the FIA Formula One World Championship, is the highest class of single seater auto racing sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile . The "formula" in the name refers to a set of rules to which all participants' cars must comply. The F1 World Championship Grands Prix, all during 1983, debuting on March 13. In 1994, Sullivan took a sabbatical from Indycar racing, and joined ABC ESPN on ABC is the brand used for sports programming on the ABC television network. He returned to Indycar racing for one final year in 1995. His season ended early after a serious crash at Michigan International Speedway . While recovering from a broken pelvis and other injuries, he announced his retirement from open-wheel competition. He returned to ABC-TV for 1996-1997.
Sullivan was also instrumental in the Red Bull Driver Search program to find an American driver to compete in the Formula 1 world championship. The program successfully promoted American Scott Speed from California.
