A joint is the location at which two or more bones make contact. They are constructed to allow movement and provide mechanical support, and are classified structurally and functionally.

Classification

Joints are mainly classified structurally and functionally. Structural classification is determined by how the bones connect to each other, while functional classification is determined by the degree of movement between the articulating bones. In practice, there is significant overlap between the two types of classifications.

Terms ending in the suffix -sis are singular and refer to just one joint, while -ses is the suffix for pluralization.

Structural classification

Structural classification names and divides joints according to how the bones are connected to each other. There are three structural classifications of joints:

A. I crack my joints too. It's a myth that it causes arthritis. I had a chiropractor tell me that there is nothing wrong with doing that, and that you can have problems from not poping joints when they need to go. If your joints crack, that means that they were not in the proper position. Not being in the proper position can stretch the tendons and ligiments. The key is, to do it only when you need too.

What would be the affect of having worn out Ball joints. How do I know its time to change them?
Q. I have a Toyota Corolla 1996 with 220 K + on it. I am wondering what would be the affect of having worn out Ball joints. How do I know its time to change them? What are the signs? Thanks in advance for answer.

A. First sign of worn out ball joint, is too much play! and obviously bad handling. to check put the on a jack stand and wiggle the wheel, you can feel right away if there is any play ! now if you have handling problem on a car with 220k miles..it could be anything, suspension, joints, bushings you have replace everything to get it right, but it wouldn't be worth it. if the car is safe to drive I wouldn't put any money in to it. the reality is no matter how much you spend, it's only worth about $500 to $1000, max. Good Luck!
