In linguistics and ethnology, Semitic (from the Biblical "Shem", Hebrew: שם, translated as "name", Arabic: ساميّ) was first used to refer to a language family of largely Middle Eastern origin, now called the Semitic languages. This family includes the ancient and modern forms of Akkadian, Amharic, Arabic, Aramaic, Ge'ez, Hebrew, Maltese, Phoenician, Tigre and Tigrinya among others.

As language studies are interwoven with cultural studies, the term also came to describe the extended cultures and ethnicities, as well as the history of these varied peoples as associated by close geographic and linguistic distribution.

Israel bashers do you know the difference between being anti-Israel and being anti-Semitic?
Q. Because reading many of your replies, I get the feeling that you cannot differentiate between the two. Your answers are for the large part more anti-Semitic then anti-Israeli. If you hate the Jews why hide it behind anti-Israel rhetoric and not just come out and admit to the fact.

A. I wonder how some of the nimrods you describe would feel if they were in the position that the average Israeli is in, every day of his life. Lets say about 1 quarter of Texas was a separate country and every day, Mexicans, Other Texans, Arizonians and Louisianans were launching rockets into this little country hoping to kill or injure anyone in the vicinity, women and children included. Then people from those surrounding places were showing up at schools, marketplaces, sporting events and the like, and blowing themselves up, taking women and children with them. Then, just for fun, sometimes armed people from those areas would sneak into this little country and kidnap people. This is what the Israeli's have been putting up with for almost… [cont.]

Why is it everytime someone makes a comment about Isreal he is labelled anti-semitic?
Q. Don't you find it funny that the majority of people are afraid to speak out their minds about Isreal because they will be labelled anti-semitic? Even in USA, it's almost politically incorrect to mention anything bad about Isreal. Anything you say about Isreal is anti-semitic. Bull. Example: Israel is not a nice country. What did you say? YOU are ANTI- SEMITIC for mentionning Isreal. Canada should of Kept Israel on the Torture list...where they belong.

A. Those "terrorists who have sworn to destroy it" are trying to protect what was once their home. They were effectively invaded. Anyone would react the same way. The US supports Israel (the US profits from having an ally in the Middle East!) and so the facts are often skewed to appear pro-Israel. I think you should certainly be able to speak your mind about Israel without seeming anti-Semitic or reflecting on the inhabitants of Israel (although it is sadly true that you can't...) After all, Israel was created by politicians and diplomats, not by a group of Jewish people.

A. If it wasn't for the cancerous bile that is Political Correctness, then there would be no real issue with commedians telling jokes a bit near the knuckle. Political Correctness has ruined the United Kingdom and any other country it has invaded.
